Patricia A. Anaya, Certified Labor Doula & Childbirth Educator

Southbay’s Professional Birth Coach (Sherpa) guiding pregnant couples towards a peaceful birth. Patricia provides labor doula support and teaches Childbirth Education for both hospital and homebirth clients.  Patricia keeps her practice small and exclusive, taking only 1 to 2 birth clients per month. She attends deliveries at the following hospitals:  Little Company of Mary, Torrance Memorial, Kaiser West LA and Kaiser Harbor City, Cedars Sinai, St. John’s Hospital in Santa Monica, UCLA Santa Monica and UCLA Westwood (Ronald Reagan). Patricia also attends Homebirths and has worked closely with many of the midwives in Los Angeles.

Patricia has vast experience and has supported VBACs, delivery of breech vaginal births, twins, planned Cesareans and Inductions, natural water births, and supported same-sex couples and single-mothers-by-choice.

Patricia is also a published author who writes about topics in childbirth and yoga. Her recent book is titled Bumps in Motion: Pregnancy Yoga Sequences from Around the World, this book is available on Amazon. She previously published and co-authored a book called Posh Push: Modern Girls Reveal Secrets to a More Natural Birth. Patricia works with qualified doulas as back-up support to ensure coverage for births and she also offers referrals to doulas, within her network, if she is not available.  She is available for public speaking events, photography in labor, and is bi-lingual Spanish/English.

A few times per year, Patricia invites pregnant couples to attend her Couples’ Pregnancy Yoga for Birth Workshops at Yoga Works. These workshops happen just a few times per year and one can book a private session with Patricia if you miss the Couples Workshop.

She supports couples that live in Los Angeles, Santa Monica, West LA, and South Bay Beach Cities, including Long Beach and San Pedro. Patricia lives in the South Bay Beach Cities with her doggie, Remy, and her teenage son.

Learn More About Patricia

Patricia began her doula training whilst living in England where she was exposed to a wealth of knowledge and the Active Birth Philosophy.   She returned to America and completed her training with CAPPA and DONA doula organizations.  She participated in the “Introduction to Birthing From Within Mentor & Doula workshop.”  She is also trained to provide support in the HypnoBirthing method. Patricia completed an Advanced Doula workshop in Santa Monica with Gail Tully of Spinning Babies.


Patricia is a current member of DASC (Doulas Association of Southern California); APPAH (Pre-and Perinatal Psychology & Health); and Birth Works International. She is the founding Co-Leader of the West Los Angeles Chapter of the International Cesarean Awareness Network (ICAN).  ICAN is a non-profit organization made up of volunteers whose mission is to help improve maternal-child health by preventing unnecessary cesareans through education, providing support for cesarean recovery, and promoting Vaginal Birth After Cesarean (VBAC).


Patricia holds current certification in Neonatal Resuscitation Practitioner (NRP) and can be contracted to work as a Midwife Assistant.  Patricia currently assists local homebirth midwife, MaryLou O’Brien, upon request. Pregnancy Yoga

Patricia is also a certified Yoga teacher and currently teaches Pregnancy Yoga, Mommy & Baby Yoga, and provides Teacher Training for Postnatal Yoga at Yoga Works, South Bay.  She received her prenatal yoga teacher training through Gurmukh Kaur Khalsa at Golden Bridge Yoga and also attended prenatal workshops in England with Uma Dinsmore-Thuli and Francoise Freedman.  Because of her strong background in dance and movement therapy, she is often referred to as the “Dancing Doula.”
